Fairest of Them All

I had a bit of time the other day, my handsome husband was busy typing away on his zombie novel.  Yes, he is writing a zombie novel!  This is one book I cannot edit for him, however. I shy away from the walking dead whenever possible. In the event of a Zombie Apocolypse, I will have to rely on his extensive studies and expertise.

Gracie was in her playroom, drawing pictures of Peter Pan and Tinkerbell.  Two different worlds!

This gave me a chance to paint a Craigslist mirror I purchased a year or so ago. You may recognize it.  I apologize for this really awful photograph.  In my zeal to get started on my project I neglected to take a before photo.

I love the garden theme of the mirror, though I am not really fond of the natural pine.

After two coats of Annie Sloan Paris Grey, Clear Wax and Dark Wax, I was done.  Less than two hours, total! I used a blow dryer between paint coats to save time.  A blow dryer can also be used to soften the Dark Wax if you need more open time. The mirror is rather large, over four feet tall and very detailed.  It took more time to get the paint into the crevices.  As an aside, we will be removing the hideous carpet on the stairs and painting them grey!
Handsome husband just read this over my shoulder and asked "what's so hideous about the carpet?"  We have already discussed this.

Close-up of the garden implement detail, which is more evident with the Dark Wax.  I am very pleased with the results!

Two hours...Mumford and Sons on the stereo, mom creating, husband creating, daughter snoring, cats"helping"...a very good day, indeed!

  1. gorgeous! I love that you look past 'what is' and at 'what can be'.

  2. Goodness, the girl has been busy! I love all your new projects. You really have a magic touch (with a bit of help from Annie Sloan) I wish we could get it here. x Sharon

  3. It is a beautiful mirror, Andie! Love the paint transformation.

  4. Ah the Craig's List Queen Transforms another Treasure exquisitely! *Winks* And I'm still Smiling about the Zombie Novel... I like the Macabre so I'd probably enjoy reading it! *Smiles*

BTW: Do you know if Vanna is okay... she hasn't Posted in forever and a day and that is so out of character for her... and there is no way to leave a comment on her Blog now so I'm concerned.

  5. I have to laugh at what your handsome husband is writing....rather ironic a cop writing a zombie book huh? As always I love what you did with your mirror. Your home sounds so peaceful with everyone creating.

  6. LOVE the mirror!!!! Any chance that it has any identification on it that would help me to find a similar one? I'm looking for one to fill a large space in my living room!!! Nice to "meet" you! xo, Kimberly

  7. I have had this mirror before both in white and gold. Always liked it. Good to see you are Ok, I am busy making plans for the move of my shop and expansion. Richard from My Old Historic House.

  8. Hi Andie! Yes, indeed, sounds like a great day. Your mirror is so beautiful and your makeover of it is even better! When I was a little girl I was drawn to spooky shows and zombies scared me the most! But I still had to watch those spooky movies! It's so good to see your pretty face on your profile! ;)
Be a sweetie and thanks for popping in to see me.
    Shelia ;)

  9. Sounds like a home full of creative people. :) Like the mirror - very pretty!

  10. It's beautiful Andie. Your finish brought out the details beautifully.

  11. Still smiling at Zombies, Peter Pan and Tinkerbell coexisting in the same Space... *LOL*

Loving your Transformation... you really should make a Biz out of Transforming other people's pieces for them... I'm not sure I could replicate such awesome results in my feeble attempts... so I tend to leave things pretty much "As Is". *Winks*

Check out the latest Fur Baby that has adopted us {most recent Post}... I swore no more, after losing Rat Boy, but Yul {yes, he's a Siamese Stray} endeared himself to us... so what can I say, I'm such a Sucker for being Adopted by the Feline Homeless! *Winks*

  19. Hello Andie,
It is such a treat seeing your before and after projects!
Have you ever painted a wrought iron bakers rack? I am in the process of cleaning one up and then
will decide about painting it. It is large, and originally from a Paris bakery, purchased by the womans mother
over 60 years ago... that I found at an estate sale.

You have found fabulous things on Craigs list! And to see how amazingly beautiful they become after your paint treatments is delightful! I've used the Paris Grey and want to experiment with some other colors... your blog
    is very inspiring!
