I love tapestries,
LOVE them, I tell you! Thing is, they can be fairly expensive. No, that's not true. They cost more than my car. That puts them in the
grossly expensive category! Recently Colette from
la Brocanteuse suggested that I hang a tapestry over the monolithic fireplace in my family room. Great idea! I checked ebay and the usual suspects. Unfortunately a tapestry that size is not in my budget.
I pondered...and pondered...and pondered some more. I considered selling my organs on the Black Market but husband said no.
This morning I was perusing the
Bible book entitled "
Rooms" by Carl Skoggard, suggested by Vanna from
delusions of grandeur... On page 106 there is a lovely room with a Verdure wallpaper. "Maybe I can find wallpaper", I thought. I looked online and came across myriad backdrop sites. EUREKA! It hit me! I used to work in a photography studio and have many industry contacts. I could have a custom canvas backdrop made with the tapestry pattern of my choice. I went online and chose several tapestries I have been drooling over for years, copied the photo and placed a custom order with a backdrop company,
backdrop.us, but there are many, many more companies to choose from. No need to worry about copyright infringement because copyright law did not exist when the tapestries were created. That's why you see reproduction tapestries, paintings, etc.
everywhere.
This tapestry sells on ebay for approximately $3,000...
I can order a custom size (6ft x 9ft) on canvas for $155!
This changes
EVERYTHING!
This is the one that is going over my mantel...
This is going, I dunno,
somewhere!
Imagine the possibilities! You can even have them make custom wallpaper!
Wouldn't this be lovely in a powder room? On muslin as drapes? Slipcovers?
Can you think of other ways to use this?
LOVE love love the idea of printing on muslin to make funky medieval drapes.Especially in a very modern loft. Bravo. Great post.
ReplyDeleteOh good!! I love your solution and can't wait to see the result! I love the designs you chose -now if I had more wall space...I have a very large "carton" which is the painting used for a tapestry and is then supposed to be destroyed to protect them as their copy right" we found it in a antique store in Paris and had it shipped back. it dates back to 18th century and sometimes one finds fragments of these cartons but seldom the complete one. after two years of not knowing where to hang it, I have come up with the idea to have it made into a folding screen...I love cartons, almost more then the tapestry..so I like your idea of printing on the canvas.. thank you for link back to me..and comment..re the garden, it is still a process and the little bit you see with the box and topiary,is part of a courtyard to the entrance..
ReplyDeletexo Colette
guess what I wanted to say in my looooong comment..you could have a screen or two made as well..Colette
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your comment, Colette! I was thinking the same thing, actually! I have some tall cabinet doors that I was keeping for such a project.
ReplyDeleteI also have a quasi Victorian mirror frame that would look awesome with a faux tapestry insert. I just took the mirror glass out last week.
Dayum girl!! That's a great idea!! I can't wait to see what your tapestries look like up! Great choices! How fab would this be on drapes?! Or like Colette suggested a screen?!
ReplyDeleteI have screens on the brain as you'll see if you stop by for a visit. I also have my "Andie" piece up *winks*
I keep trying to get my email thru to you but something keeps causing it to fail....It did the same thing when I was trying to contact Dawn. I've got the hubbs on it. Vanna
Forgot to add I love your blogs new look too! V
ReplyDeleteThank you, Vanna. That means a LOT to me!
ReplyDeleteAndie that oeil de boeuf mirror was $1800. If it'd been 1k I would've bought it. But that seller won't do discounts. I hate when they won't budge at all. I usually walk away on principal...Unless I REALLY want it!
ReplyDeleteGirlfriend I might take you up on that offer! BTW same goes for you with Seattle CL. But I don't think we have a thing on your area *winks* Vanna
A great idea, Andrea! The tapestry I love best is the one you are going to hang over your mantel. Simply beautiful.
ReplyDeleteDear Andrea,
ReplyDeleteHow can one order these tapestries?
Best regards,
Anne

If you want to earn more when you become a therapist or holistic practitioner, then it would make sense to have an open mind
ReplyDeleteand move away from the mindset of treating your private practice as though
it is a hobby, right. During tough phases of
life, you need someone with whom you can share your
marital problems openly. Although a lot of massage clients to prefer to be quiet during
the massage and just enjoy the relaxing massage
in silence, there are also those that like to strike a conversation with the masseuse, which gives you the opportunity to
learn more about your clients and build a good professional relationship with them.
