Virtual Paint

After I finished my Breakfast Room table and chairs I decided the sideboard I had been using would simply not do!  I looked on Craigslist for some ideas and found this...

I love the shape. However, I am not a big fan of the hardware or the color.

To Pixlr!
Pixlr is a free online photo editor.  I am, by no means, an expert but my skills are good enough to give me a rough idea.  I realize that a monkey has a better grasp of how to navigate the internet than I do, so, without further ado, I present to you...
The Virtually Painted Armoire That Was Completed By the Next Best Thing To a Monkey...

Ta Daaaaa!
I used the tools to virtually remove the hardware and paint the entire piece grey, like a Gustavian antique!  Perfect!  I was able to paint it before I even laid eyes on it!  How cool is that?

Much better!  It comes to Yorkshire Street later in the week!

Now, I am in the market for an internet savvy chimpanzee!
All my problems will be solved!

  7. Good Afternoon Andie,
What a fabulous idea, to test run your thoughts and ideas, before actually doing it. This suits me down to the ground.

  15. Your Craigs List has so much better stuff than my area's does! I love this armoire! That photo site is awesome! I think that you will love the piece painted like that and with new hardware. It will really change the whole piece! Bravo! Monkeys all over beware - she DOES know how to use the internet! LOL! I'm a bit ape-ish myself but I'm learning the more I snoop around. Thank you for sharing! Can't wait to see a follow up once you get the armoire all painted and in place! Hugs, Leena

  19. Hi, Andie!

I can see that your wonders will never cease. How creative -- and industrious -- you are!

May I suggest the addition of four good-sized BUN FEET (you probably know you can buy them at woodworker's supply outlets, finish them to match, and then screw them into the bottom of an existing cabinet piece to give it added height and "drama."

I always like to see a good deal of space underneath the cabinets, unless they are built in or designed to sit flat on the floor.

Tell me, please: When you apply paint to a piece like that, do you find it necessary to strip and sand the wood first?

Also, what sort of hinges and pulls would you like to get for the piece?

It's always a treat to visit your blog. I really must come over here more often and "restore my soul."

    All the best always,

    FreeThinke

  20. Hi Andie,
What a great way to play around with the color. I'd say that monkey did a great job, lol....

You're lucky to have such nice detail at the top of your armoire. The nooks and crannies are going to look great with glaze or wax in them. Can't wait to see the finished product!

  21. That's amazing! I was an interior designer (mostly commercial) and used to tell people "the only difference between you and me is that I can picture how it's going to look"...well, now EVERYBODY can..YIKES! Glad I gave up the business :-)

  22. Hi Andie first of all again you were over the top entertaining in your posting. I know to be true that this piece will look a million times better when you get your hands on the paint job or your trained monkey you will most likely will find on Craigslist, for this place is the place you and only you find the best pieces :)

Thank you for sharing, I wanted to photo shop my whole kitchen white to see if that is what I want or greys :)

Keep inspiring us, and stop making us so jealous of all your great finds :)
I am coming for a visit so I can steal away your craigslist finds :)

    Happy Valentine sweet friend.
    xoxo
